Where to Find the Best Cake in Barcelona

Cake, glorious cake.

My cake consumption has taken a hit recently. I’ve been trying to eat less dairy products, so my cake options are becoming more limited. My quest to reduce my refined sugar intake is also (and rightly) having an impact.

So, as I sit here on a sunny Sunday afternoon drinking my almond milk cappuccino (no extra sugar, gracias), I find myself – for good or bad – thinking about all the cake I am not eating right now.

Barcelona is a good foodie destination. You can find something to suit all tastes and diets here. For days when you just really need to eat cake (these days happen, I assure you), here’s a list of my top picks for the best cake in Barcelona.

(1) The Pudding Bar

Yes, that really is its name. And for good reason: the puddings here are epic.

The ever-popular carrot cake is always a solid choice, while the white chocolate cheesecake takes cheesecake to a whole new level. It’s so huge, though, that you might want to share. The brownie is also a masterpiece.

If for some reason you don’t want cake (who are you?), this quirkily decorated place also serves up tasty sandwiches and quiche.

(2) Chök

“Kroughnuts” and donuts are a specialty at this small and friendly chain.

Here you will find the most incredible range of flavours ever conceived on a donut. The dark chocolate and mango kroughnut is out of this world.

The added bonus? They also serve up incredible vegan donuts.

(3) Brunch & Cake

Hipster as hell, this chain tends to get packed to the brim with young tourists and Spaniards alike. The reason? The food is damn delicious.

It has a constant supply of cupcakes in a variety of flavours. Perhaps even tastier, however, are the Nutella and Oreo cakes. They’re pretty beastly though. If you’re taking away, you might want to eat half one day and half the next day. (Cake for breakfast is a thing, right?)

If you’re eating in, the extensive brunch menu will cater to most tastes and cravings. While it may seem like a case of style over substance, this place actually scores high both for taste and presentation.

(4) Quinoa

OK, I couldn’t compile a list of the best food-related something-or-other without including my favourite place of all: Quinoa.

Its wraps, salads, smoothies and juices are delicious, but whatever your choice, you must save space for cake afterwards.

The coffee chocolate cake is among the tastiest I’ve ever tried. It has a range of other options daily too, including (vegan!) carrot cake, cookies and brownies. Shockingly, in this instance I would not recommend the brownie. It’s not bad, of course, but it doesn’t come close to the cakes.

(5) Every bakery ever

So, this post might be making me slightly hungry and perhaps “every bakery ever” is a slight exaggeration. It’s not too far wrong, though.

If you’d have asked me a couple of years ago, after I spent a few months in Andalucía, I would have said Spain ranks pretty low for its baked goodies.

Well, Barcelona is its own thing (in many ways). Bakeries are everywhere, and it’s not hard to find tasty croissants, muffins and cakes here. If you’re in need of a sugar fix, you won’t need to walk far to find a decent bakery.

Have you come across any other delicious cakes in Barcelona? If so, please let me know! Sharing is caring.
